Guatemala Basic Tour 5 days / 4 nights
360 Day Mayan Solar Calendar
In earlier times the Hindu, Persian, Hebrew, Babylonian, Assyrian, and on it goes, Mayan calendars were based on a 360 day year with 12 months of 30 days each. Holidays are separate days that are set apart and do not count in the days of the year. If you actually have 365 days in a year but have 5 holidays, those holidays are holy and your calendar year is 360 days.

Arrive at the Guatemala City Airport and meet your bi-lingual driver who will transfer you to your hotel in Antigua – one of the world’s oldest & most beautiful colonial cities. Travel time is about 45 minutes.
The rest of the day you are free to explore beautiful Antigua! You may want to start your exploration with a drink at Sky Cafe, which overlooks this amazing 400-year-old historic colonial city – the former capital of Guatemala. In the evening enjoy one of Antigua’s many great restaurants.
After breakfast at your hotel, meet your local guide and enjoy a sight-seeing walk of world-famous Antigua. This leisurely walk around this World Heritage Site will focus on the city’s history, cultural trends and restoration efforts. You will visit the City Hall, Palace of the Captain’s General and the Cathedral with its majestic ruins. You will complete the tour at the museums at Paseo de los Museos at Casa Santo Domingo. Afterwards you will be able to shop at one of Antigua’s most respected Mayan/Jade studios.
As part of your walking tour, you will also be treated to an informative presentation about End of the Mayan Calendar – which occurs on Dec. 21, 2012! Many people believe the end of the Mayan Calendar also indicates the end of the world, thus the name of your itinerary >>> Journey to the End of the World!!
Your afternoon and evening are free so that you can explore beautiful Antigua on your own, but if you would like to add an additional tour to your itinerary for the afternoon – you may want to consider a Guided Tour of the Surrounding Villages of Antigua (cost $35pp). With this tour you will see the Archbishop’s Palace in San Juan del Obispo, Ciudad Vieja, and the Maya Town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes – a place that specializes in some of the finest Maya authentic textiles.
After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a few leisurely hours shopping in Antigua or perhaps visiting one of the town’s many spas. At noon, however, make your way to Sabe Rico – a unique and beautiful ‘garden restaurant” situated within the walls of real colonial ruins. It is here that you will participate in an Authentic Mayan Ritual that will amaze and surprise you. A Mayan Spiritual Guide will explain the ritual, step by step, so that this ages-old Mayan Ritual can be fully appreciated. After the Mayan Ritual lunch will be served in the beautiful garden restaurant, Sabe Rico.
Again, your afternoon and evening are free so that you can further explore beautiful Antigua on your own OR if you would like to add an additional tour to your itinerary for the afternoon – you may want to consider a tour of the nearby Coffee Farm, Azotea ($15pp). With this tour, a guide will walk you thru a working coffee farm and explain the entire process of coffee farming and its rich history. A ZIP Line Adventure can also be arranged if there is interest ($75pp),
This final full day in Antigua is a free day to do as you would like OR if you have never seen hot flowing rivers of lava, this is your chance…
Meet your guide in the morning for a shared shuttle to the Pacaya Volcano National Park where you will begin a 1 ½ hour guided climb to the base of the volcano to watch newly forming lava rivers! ($35 Includes transportation, guide, entrance fees and box lunch).
After your active volcano adventure, you can spend the rest of your day simply relaxing at your hotel, or perhaps spend some time at one of Antigua’s many Spas to ‘wind down’ from your hike. You may also want to consider taking a horse and carriage ride around Antigua to drink in the amazing charm of this beautiful colonial city, which is ‘sprinkled’ with breath-taking ruins throughout its cobblestoned streets.
